Have you ever visited a job board and been less inspired by what you read? Indeed, you have.
Some publications seem incomplete. Others read as if written from a script of interchangeable words with little meaning for a specific job or business. Still other messages leave you no better informed about the job or the company advertising it than you were before reading it.
We have all been there. Worse still, some of us might even say the same about job postings in our own company or, even worse, in our department.
It’s actually shocking how poor so many posts are. Yet not a day goes by without someone reminding us of the current difficulties in finding candidates for vacant positions. You would think that this alone would be a motivation to get the next job just to reach the right candidates. Although it doesn’t work that way now, it may in the future.
We evaluated over 400 job postings for procurement positions. We also contacted 256 procurement professionals about the skills they considered most important for various procurement roles. Our conclusion: There is a huge gap between the displays and the requirements expressed by supply professionals.
