GENEVA – 1st December, 2021: – WISeKey International Holding Ltd. (“WISeKey & CloseCurlyDoubleQuote;) (SIX: WIHN, NASDAQ: WKEY), a leading global cybersecurity, AI, blockchain and IoT company, announced today that in collaboration with the OISTE Foundation .ORG will present Digital Human Rights to Privacy and Digital Identity at the World Congress of Law Colombia 2021.

In cooperation with the World Association of Jurists (WAN), the Ministry of Justice and Law of Colombia and the Office of the Mayor of Barranquilla, the World Congress of Law Colombia 2021 will be held on December 2-3, 2021 at the Center Puerta de Oro, in Barranquilla. The list of speakers is available at https://barranquilla.worldlawcongress.com/speakers/.

Thus, Barranquilla (also known as La Arenosa) will become the world capital of law during these two days, where heads of state including Iván Duque and Felipe VI, King of Spain, presidents and judges of high International courts and tribunals, attorneys general and representatives of international organizations will discuss, among other aspects, the role of technology in the enforcement of justice. The event will bring together academics, lawyers, businessmen, human rights activists and law students from all continents.

Privacy is a basic human right. It is also a threatened right. New digital technologies follow us and scrutinize us all at this age of surveillance capitalism (Zuboff, 2018). The digital economy considers every click, search or like an asset to be monetized. Our lives, reflected in cyberspace, are plundered for behavioral data for the benefit of a system that turns our freedom into profit. We are quietly domesticated to accept as normal that decision-making rights disappear before we even know there is a decision to be made.

“A new awareness imbued with a human rights-based approach that considers every individual”surfer”As a worthy moral being, worthy of respect, is required. Otherwise, our connectivity will continue to offer a perverse amalgam of empowerment inextricably superimposed on shrinking, ”said Carlos Moreira, Founder and CEO of WISeKey ‘.

For these reasons, WISeKey and the OISTE Foundation, – on the basis of the various resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and the Human Rights Council concerning the protection and promotion of the right to privacy to digital age – have set up a panel to address, among others, the following questions:

  • Identify and clarify the principles, standards and best practices regarding the promotion and protection of the human right to privacy
  • Strengthen the principles of non-arbitrariness, lawfulness, legality, necessity and proportionality in state surveillance of communications.
  • Ensure that profiling, automated decision-making and machine learning technologies operate in accordance with agreed safeguards and do not affect the enjoyment of human rights
  • Introduce a gender perspective and ensure that there is effective national oversight and remedies for violation of the right to privacy
  • Address the issue of personal data management: often individuals do not give their free, explicit and informed consent to the reuse, sale or multiple resales of their personal data
  • Address the issue of the impacts of artificial intelligence on human rights, with particular emphasis on examples of discrimination and prejudice

WISeKey and the OISTE Foundation signed the International Principles on the Application of Human Rights to Communications Monitoring just after their launch at the 24th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva in 2013.
