Virat Kohli thanks RCB management and fans after loss to Rajasthan Royals in qualifying

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)’s hopes of lifting their first Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy were dashed after they lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the second qualifying game on Friday (May 27th). A win would have seen RCB contest their first final since 2016. The Bengaluru-based franchise was no match for RR, who recorded a 7-wicket win.
Following RCB’s exit from the tournament, their former skipper Virat Kohli shared a heartfelt message. Kohli took to Twitter to thank RCB management and the fans. Along with the post, he posted photos from his IPL 2022 campaign.

“Sometimes you win, and sometimes you don’t, but 12th Man Army, you have been fantastic, always supporting us through our campaign. You make cricket special. The learning never stops. (1/2) “, he wrote.

It was after 9 seasons that Kohli played under another captain in IPL. After being named full-time RCB captain in 2013, Kohli captained the team until 2021. Ahead of the start of IPL 2021 Stage 2, the veteran batsman announced that the season would be his last. as a team leader. He was replaced by Faf du Plessis.

Kohli, IPL’s leading scorer, didn’t have a great run with the bat. He only managed 341 points in 16 matches with an average of 22.73. His strike rate was 115.99. Only one of his two half centuries has come in a winning cause.

Much was expected of the batting legend in the 2nd Qualifier but he went for 7. RCB recovered from the first hit but the scoring rate remained lower and they shot a total of 157/8 on the board. RR rolled over Jos Buttler’s undefeated century to escalate the chase in 18.1 overs. They will face Gujarat Titans in the final on Sunday, May 29.

There is no doubt that Kohli will stay with RCB until he wants to, but the franchise wants him to perform better next season. du Plessis is expected to be backed as captain for IPL 2023.
