“This law provides that in cases where there is credible information that officials of foreign governments have been implicated in gross human rights violations or in significant corruption, such persons and members of their immediate family must be nominated publicly or privately and are not eligible for entry. in the United States, ”Blinken said in a statement.
The two people named were:
Chandana Hettiarachchi, an intelligence officer in the Sri Lankan navy, for his involvement in gross human rights violations, namely the blatant denial of the right to liberty of at least eight victims of the “Trincomalee 11”, from 2008 to 2009.
Sunil Ratnayake, former Sri Lankan army sergeant, for his involvement in gross human rights violations, namely the extrajudicial killings of at least eight Tamil villagers in December 2000.
