ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet approved a gas load management plan for the winter season to better cope with the gas shortage.

Informing the media of cabinet decisions on Tuesday, Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry said under the gas load management plan, gas supply to the CNG sector would remain suspended. from December 1 to February 15, 2022.

He said, however, that the gas supply would be fully provided to independent power producers, fertilizer companies and export-oriented industries. He said five percent more gas will be supplied to power plants running on liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The minister said the gas saved from CNG, cement and captive power plants will be supplied to domestic consumers.

Fawad said the use of electricity is also encouraged during the winter season and its tariff has been reduced for domestic consumers to encourage them to switch their devices such as geysers and heaters to electricity. He warned: “Our gas reserves are running out quickly and we must develop an alternative strategy to deal with the situation.”

He said Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan had given a detailed briefing to cabinet on the new variant of Covid-19.

The cabinet called on provincial governments and the public to complete the vaccination process to better cope with the new variant, he added.

Fawad said the cabinet also discussed issues relating to the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs). He said given the amendment to the law, it was imperative to use EVMs in future by-elections, adding that the cabinet had also expressed concerns over the recently released video showing the vote buying in Lahore. .

The Information Minister said that the Pakistan Election Commission should take this matter as well as the issue of rigging the senatorial elections to the logical conclusion.

The minister said that all formalities regarding Saudi Arabia’s $ 3 billion deposits at the State Bank of Pakistan and $ 1.2 billion in oil facilities have been completed. He said that the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation will also provide $ 762 million to Pakistan, which will help stabilize the rupee in the market.

He said the federal cabinet meeting also looked at commodity prices and was informed that the weekly price index fell 0.67%.

The Information Minister said Pakistan will provide Afghanistan with 50,000 tonnes of wheat for humanitarian aid.

He said that during the cabinet meeting, the prime minister asked the FIA ​​to intercept elements involved in human trafficking. The cabinet also approved the holding of a special meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers in Pakistan.

He said the cabinet had tasked the prime minister’s climate change adviser Malik Amin Aslam with preparing a long-term plan to tackle smog.

The minister said it is noted that urea consumption has sharply increased in Sindh by 53 percent in the past six months. This showed that hoarding is rampant in the province and that smugglers are facilitated in the province, he said, adding that it is for this reason that Punjab farmers are suffering and buy urea at the market. black. The government of Sindh must verify hoarding to bring comfort to farmers, he said.

Disclosing the cabinet decisions, he said the petroleum division informed the cabinet of the vacant director general and director general positions of the division and related departments and informed the cabinet that the process of appointing four vacant posts was continuing.

The minister said the cabinet approved increasing the duration of Tablighi Jamat’s visa from 120 to 150 days, in addition to providing them with an E-Visa.

Fawad said Rana Shamim testified in Islamabad’s High Court that the circulated affidavit was not issued by him. The question is how the affidavit was published in the newspapers, he said, adding that it is assumed that Nawaz Sharif was involved in the publication of Shamim’s affidavit.
