Some families in County Monroe will soon be able to rest more easily on their bills.
Congressman Joe Morelle on Saturday announced he would provide resources to reduce heating costs for the winter.
The funds come from the American Rescue Plan. The amount includes nearly $ 536 million under the home energy assistance program, plus more than $ 340 million from the Department of Health and Social Services.
The HEAP program helped over 70,000 people last year.
Morelle pointed out the large network of people who could use the aid.
“When we adopted the US bailout earlier this year, we made an investment to ensure that no one is forced to choose between heating their home and putting food on their table,” Morelle said in a statement. “With winter upon us, I am proud to be able to provide relief to families in County Monroe when they need it most by helping them save money on their heating bills. I encourage everyone who is eligible to take advantage of these additional funds in the HEAP program, and I will continue to work every day in Congress to make investments like this one that ease the burden on working families in our community.
Applications are now being accepted.
