EMU professor of management named recipient of Darrell H. Cooper Presidential Endowment Academic Research Award

YPSILANTI – Dr. Eric Schulz, professor of management at Eastern Michigan University, received the Darrell H. Cooper Presidential Endowment Academic Research Award of $2,500. For 22 years, Schulz worked as an educator at EMU and has an impressive history of publications in human resource journals.

Schulz specializes in compensation and benefits and recently developed his proposal, “CEO and Employee Pay Dispersion and Its Relationship to Organizational Performance”, to address the growing gap between the compensation of the organizational leader represented by the CEO and average employee compensation. . Schulz’s study proposes to collect and analyze salary data for organizational leaders of publicly traded companies in three discrete industries. The study focuses on the effects that salary dispersion measures have on organizational performance, sales measures, growth, and productivity.

“I will be a significant influence on understanding the impacts of CEO and employee salary dispersion,” Schulz said. “The Cooper Executive Chair is proud to support this important research.”

Established in 1993 by Darrell H. Cooper, Chairman of the Board and owner of Fernco, Inc., the Darrell H. Cooper Presidential Endowment Academic Research Award serves EMU students and faculty by supporting research, education and community. Research grants are distributed each academic year to faculty in the Department of Management to be used in research related to leadership and all management disciplines.

“The Cooper Presidential Endowment is thrilled to fund this important project to help us better understand wage disparities and future trends,” said Megan Endres, Darrel H. Cooper Endowed Chair in Leadership and Professor of Management at EMU. “Schulz is an outstanding researcher who we are proud to support,” Endres added.

Schulz is co-coordinator of the Master of Science in Human Resources and Organizational Development program at EMU. He also holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University.
